Week 12 - David Pereira - MoJo Preparation

MoJo Preparation

In this final week leading up to MoJo, the group’s focus was mainly developing the final game and preparing content to present during our slot.

Game Development

During this final development week, the group is mainly focused on polishing the game, to improve its playability. My tasks were mainly to coordinate with our incredible artists and game writers, to implement more art, animations, and some lore into the game. The main focus was animating the character’s movements and abilities. For example, here are the animations for the new Vampire character:

Vampire Animation

The rest of the team is finishing the implementation and testing of other important features, namely creating other levels with more powerful characters, and preparing instrumentation to collect data from the playtesting.

Finishing Touches

After finishing up the game, some final aspects will be polished before Monday, namely:

  • Updating the game’s itch.io page
  • Creating a game trailer
  • Creating a 10-minute gameplay video

Final Remarks

I would like to close out this DevLog with some thoughts. First of all, as a first-time Game Developer, I thoroughly enjoyed getting involved and learning about the process of creating a game from scratch. I have been gaming since I can remember, and now I appreciate even more all the thought and work that goes into creating an enjoyable experience for the gamer. Secondly, having the opportunity to collaborate with both art and game writing students has been an amazing experience. I have learned a lot and I believe that this collaboration aspect is something that should be implemented widely across other courses. Finally, I would like to thank all of the Focus Group participants, that have given us some precious insight and ideas to improve the game as a whole, as well as everyone that has tested our prototypes!
